Just Look Up
By Jenni Schubring, Director of Women’s Ministry
My daughter, Sylvia, is currently working and doing ministry in Yosemite National Park. Last weekend, most of my family went out to visit her. (Yes…in one weekend…flew there on Friday…flew back on Monday…it was a whirlwind).
We stayed in Curry Village in Yosemite Valley, where Sylvia works. There were SO MANY people there. The village is full of platform tents, shops, restaurants, museums, and galleries. There were so many cars that we couldn’t find a parking spot. At times, it was overwhelming.
And then I looked up:
Breathtaking.
And that was the case; no matter where we went and no matter how chaotic it felt, we could look up and take in these breathtaking views:
I found myself saying it out loud to my kids, “Look up!” And we would all gasp at what we saw:
When we looked up, we were reminded where we were.
When we looked up, we saw God’s artistry.
When we looked up, we experienced God’s majesty.
When we looked up, we were in awe.
It didn’t take long for me to see the parallel in my own life. It is easy for me to get caught up in all the things that are right in front of me…
the appointments
the meetings
the to-do list
and the list goes on…
It gets overwhelming.
But then I look up.
I am reminded of my heavenly Father who holds me in the palm of His hand.
I am comforted by my Jesus, who loves me.
I am empowered by the Holy Spirit who lives in me.
Something else we saw when we looked up in Yosemite Valley? Ravens. He tells us to consider the ravens. While we look up to see evidence of God, He looks at us with such love (artwork done by Sylvia):
How loved we are!
May you find comfort and peace in looking up.
