Transformational Discipleship

A Servant Leadership Development Program

Committed to Loving and Serving God and Others Better

What is Transformational Discipleship?

THE VISION
image29

“They will be like a tree planted by the water that sends out its roots by the stream. It does not fear when heat comes; its leaves are always green.  It has no worries in a year of drought and never fails to bear fruit.” (Jeremiah 17:8)

Transformational Discipleship implies spiritual formation of our minds and our behavior through the work of the Trinity.

The intent – that people who are transforming in their relationship with our God will have a positive, life-changing impact on others.  Parent to child.  Worker to co-worker.  Family member to family member.  Friend to friend.  Neighbor to neighbor.  Coach to player.

Just like leadership development in organizations, we believe it is time for the church to take an intentional step to servant leadership development.  As Jesus did with his disciples, this 18-month process will recruit men and women who are spiritually open and willing to accept the rigors of this process.

THE FRAMEWORKimage30

Do not conform to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.” (Romans 12:2) and “[be equipped] for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up.” (Ephesians 4:12)

I.  RETREATS (6)
A retreat kicks off each of the six 3-month modules.  They introduce the principles and module work of Transformational Discipleship while allowing for discussion, reflection, and review in a safe, authentic community.

II.  MODULE WORK
Module work between retreats helps deepen and strengthen your transformation so you may love and serve God and others better while learning you are God’s masterpiece with a purpose in His kingdom.

III.  COACHING
You are assigned a trained coach to proactively partner with you in the developmental process of TD to help you deepen the experience and reach your goals by providing clarity, giving direction, and maximizing your efforts.

IV.  SMALL GROUP/BOOK GROUP
Your small group of fellow participants will delve into one book per module.  You’ll  hold each other accountable, check in on one another, offer encouragement, share joys and challenges and pray for each other.

Modules

1. Transformational Discipleship
OCTOBER – DECEMBER

In this module, we appreciate the link between our spiritual life and our emotional life. We discern how the evil one is set against us and what Jesus means when he invites us to live in freedom every day.

FOUNDATIONAL RETREAT at a TBA conference center in October 2020.  Spouses are encouraged to attend.  Everything minus transportation and lodging costs is provided.

2. Embracing Vulnerability
JANUARY – MARCH

Jesus taught us to pray, “Let your kingdom come!” In this module, we look further into our disciplines or practices that get in the way of us “letting go of our kingdom,” so we can “let God’s kingdom come.”

Since the original “fall into sin”, we spend an inordinate amount of energy covering up our shame, hiding our weaknesses, or proving we are okay. Rather than avoiding shame, Jesus invites us into grace and truth and emphasizes the importance of creating space for God to work in our life.

3. Grounded in Purpose
APRIL – JUNE

The centerpiece for the next two modules is MissionBuilder TM, a process that helps people explore their personal story, uncover their core values, define their purpose, and articulate their personal mission.

By exploring our Story, we can bring to light the Story themes – both conscious and subconscious – that impact our personal and professional life. The insights we gain from exploring our Story and our passion will give deeper clarity to what shapes our values and purpose. We also explore the purpose and mission God intends for each of us.

5. Envisioning Discipleship
OCTOBER – DECEMBER

Matthew 28:19 – Go, therefore, and make disciples…

The framework of Christian ministry is based on Jesus’ Great Commission to “go and make disciples.”  We will learn how Jesus spent three years modeling how to actually “make disciples.” We will break down the nuances of discipleship: WHO is a disciple, WHAT a disciple does, and HOW a disciple makes disciples.

We’ll also see that the New Testament and Christian history provide principles in disciple-making that can apply to people no matter their stage in life, their personality, their talents, etc.

We get to bring our Story to others by living vulnerably and authentically. We get to share with others the redemptive power of the Gospel and model how to surrender to God’s perfect love.
